Prom night is one of the highlights of high school students.  This is the time when boys dress up with their fancy tuxedos and girls dress up in their most glam dresses.  A simple ponytail would not match a prom dress as this do is just too casual for a night of glitter and glam.  Luckily, there are many ways you can fix your hair without having to go to an expensive salon.  If you can not afford salon hairstyles, you can easily do your own with just a few elastic and some bobby pins.  The most glamorous dos for prom night are French hairstyles.  Just because they say French, does not mean they are hard to do.  The classic and sophisticated look of these hairstyles may look intricate but it is actually very simple.  Here, one French hairstyle is explained to help you with your prom night dilemma: the Classic Chignon.

Classic chignon hairstyles are very easy to use; however, to be able to get the most out of this hairdo, you would need well-conditioned hair to make the texture more smooth and shiny.  The shine on hair makes the chignon more attractive and appealing.  Whether you have straight, wavy, or curly hair, the chignon is an ideal hairstyle for you.  It is recommended for women with long hair but those with shorter hair can also sport this style with the help of a few more bobby pins and some hairspray.  

In making a French classic chignon, you should prepare a hair elastic, hair pins or bobby pins preferably in the same color as your hair, a paddle brush, and a pin tail comb.  An elastic hair band can also be used to keep bangs or short growing hair from falling on your face.  Just like a simple bun, a chignon can be easily done.  The chignon, however, is commonly arranged low.  

Now, to create the classic chignon, start out by smoothing your hair out using the paddle brush.  The reason why a paddle brush is preferred is that because this creates a much smoother and polished look.  After smoothing your hair out, gather them all in a ponytail at the lower part of your head just right above the nape.  Tie it with hair elastic.  Take the gathered hair and split it into two.  Using the comb, tease each section.  Then smooth out the one section using the paddle brush.  After smoothing it out, twist it under and use a bobby pin large enough to secure the twist.  Do the same with the other section.  Using a small comb or brush, smooth out any stray hairs then spray with hairspray if necessary.

You can follow these steps to create the classic chignon or you can also make it a little different by making some parts of the hair fall down in a wave.  You can accessorize with specially-designed bobby pins to match your prom dress as well.  If you want something more dramatic, you can also wear a small tiara to create a princess look just make sure to secure it on your hair if you plan on dancing the night away.
